Porsche Shifts to Electric: Taycan and 718 Models Set for Transformation

After 2026, Porsche will no longer sell the Taycan in non-European markets. Additionally, the gas-powered 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster convertible will be discontinued sometime in the coming year. While these iconic vehicles will be missed, they are being replaced with electric versions.

Porsche Electric Taycan Launch:

The electric Taycan has already entered the market, and dealers expect to receive their inventory soon. As one of Porsche’s best-selling vehicles, the Taycan’s electric variant will be available in the second half of 2024. The starting price will be $80,450, including a mandatory delivery fee of $1,650.

Taycan Specifications:

• Performance: Available in 402- or 630-horsepower versions.
• Dimensions: Approximately 188.4 inches long, 84.7 inches wide, and just below 64 inches in height.
• Interior Space: Enhanced cabin and cargo room due to the electric motor, battery layout, and a front trunk (frunk) with about 3 cubic feet of space.
• Towing Capacity: Approximately 4,409 pounds.
• Sustainability: Features crafted from high-quality, sustainable materials, including leather-free seats and recycled interior elements.

Upcoming Electric 718 Boxster:

• Platform: The electric 718 will use a newly developed sports car platform to reduce weight.
• Pricing: Expected to start at around $78,000, with a range of up to $105,000 depending on trim and options.
• Performance: It is rear-motor-only, with a potential all-electric GTS equivalent featuring all-wheel drive for improved grip and acceleration. Range is projected at about 250 miles, with an 800-volt setup allowing for DC fast-charging at rates up to 270 kWh.
• Design: Batteries positioned behind the driver’s seat, mirroring the mid-engine layout of the gas-powered 718 Boxster.
